What is the GY-ESAG role?

The role of the Event Safety Advisory Group is to consider large scale public events and their management and safety protocols. The Group's remit includes outdoor events which require a premises licence or a temporary event licence under the Licensing Act 2003 such as music festivals and other large scale events such as fireworks displays, carnivals, parades etc, or anything of a similar nature.

What is a large scale event?

In general a 'large scale public event' will be treated as being an event where more than 500 people are expected to attend, although smaller events may require the involvement of the GY-ESAG depending on the nature of the event.

How often does it meet?

GY-ESAG meets around 5 or 6 times a year to review forthcoming events and to offer help and advice to event organisers.

Membership

GY-ESAG includes representatives from the Borough Council, Police, Fire and Ambulance Service and some event organisers.

"Safety is of course important but events must still be fun"

GY-ESAG has no powers to stop an event taking place but can make recommendations to improve the safety and event management.

The members of GY-ESAG also have an wealth of experience on event management protocols and are therefore able to offer help and advice on a range of event management issues.
